Tips for a healthy holiday weekend

Tips for a Healthy Holiday Weekend

The Easter holiday weekend is here most people will be around more food, sweets and larger meals. Perhaps even several large meals in one day! So how do you stay on track while also enjoying the holidays and some sweets?? Here are a few tips!!

1. Drink extra water!!  Our rule of thumb is to drink half your body weight in ounces on an average day. So my personal suggestion and what I try doing on holidays is to drink a full gallon of water throughout the day. I will drink a glass as soon as I wake up and a large glass of water before every meal. The water will give you more energy and help you eat less.  It will help you feel satisfied longer and will help you resist the extra snacking. A lot of time we misread the sign of thirst as hunger and can also help prevent this with extra water intake.

2. Plan Ahead- Do you know what foods will be at the meals you are going to or will be eating? Plan your other foods during the day around this. Do not skip meals or go long periods without eating because this will only cause you to overeat when you sit down to eat. Save calories from the extra foods such as appetizers and breads and enjoy a chocolate egg or another sweet that you enjoy!

3. Be Active!  Squeeze in a workout before your big meal. Also make sure to do a high intensity cardio workout the next day to burn extra calories! Go for a walk with the family! The weather is supposed to be georgous on Sunday. Use that to your advantage and plan outdoor activities with the family! Resist the temptation to eat a big meal and then flop on the couch.

4. Do not go to the meal hungry! If you sit down on an empty stomach you'll be more likely to overeat!

Your Easter Meal:
-Portions....Portions....Portions....do I need to say more??
- Scope out the proteins and start with this. Then load up on vegetables. Then small amounts of your favorites! You can enjoy the traditional foods you like but by eating a small amount!.
-Drink a large glass of water before starting the meal
-limit your alcohol intake
